Senate Majority Leader John Thune should immediately change the filibuster rule and then the majority in the Senate can vote and reopen the government. The House has already passed the clean CR bill and then President Trump will sign it.
The current broken filibuster rule allows the minority party in the Senate to stop legislation indefinitely just by a clerical procedure. The founding fathers never had any "filibuster" rule like this. Senators then were allowed to speak as long as they wanted before a vote. If the democrats want to filibuster, then stand out there and speak as the founders intended. But you cannot leave the chambers to use the restroom, etc.. So go as long as you can. Eliminate the broken clerical filibuster out of the Senate rules and restore what the founding fathers put in the Constitution.Thune could change that rule today back to the original procedure of the founding fathers, being the Senate Majority Leader.The copyright of this article belongs to the original author/organization.
