Nomura released a report on China's internet industry, stating that as China's largest mobile map service provider, Alibaba-W (09988.HK) subsidiary Amap's "Monthly Total Usage Duration" (MTS) in August grew by 26% year-on-year, while Baidu-SW (09888.HK) subsidiary Baidu Maps remained flat year-on-year.

The firm indicated that Amap's growth is primarily driven by DAU (Daily Active Users), which increased by 19% in August to 193 million, while Baidu Maps had 85 million.

Nomura noted that Amap is competing with Meituan-W (03690.HK) subsidiary Dianping, launching a new restaurant ranking list on September 10, based purely on navigation data, distinguishing it from other rankings that rely on user reviews. Meituan Dianping's user activity remains resilient, with a 19% year-on-year increase in monthly total usage duration in August (up from 17% in July), and DAU grew by 26% to 33 million.

In August, Meituan and its subsidiary Dianping applications saw their "Monthly Total Usage Duration" grow by 10% and 19% year-on-year, respectively, mainly benefiting from DAU growth of 10% and 26% year-on-year. However, the total usage duration of Alibaba's Ele.me declined by 39% year-on-year, primarily dragged down by a 13% year-on-year decrease in DAU and a 30% drop in average daily usage duration.

Baidu opened nearly 2% lower this morning and the decline expanded, hitting a low of 126.2 yuan during the session, down 7% at one point, and the latest price is 126.5 yuan, down 6.7%, with a transaction volume of 1.672 billion yuan. Alibaba's stock price rose by 0.6% to 160.1 yuan, while Meituan (03690.HK) fell by 2.4%
